Vanartsdalen Leads Bloomsburg to Win Over Houghton

HOUGHTON, NY.--Jamie Vanartsdalen (Huntingdon Valley/Lower Moreland) scored two goals and added two assists to lead the two-time defending NCAA Division II champion Bloomsburg University field hockey team to an season-opening 6-0 win over Houghton College on Friday.
The two goals for Vanartsdalen give her 82 for her career tying her with Denise Miller for the number one spot all-time on the school's goal scoring list. The six points she scored in the game also give her 202 for career and moved her within four points of the Division II all-time record held by Melanie Helm (1993-96) of Lock Haven.
Vanartsdalen scored just 11:25 into the season when she took a loose ball in front of the goal and punched it home. The Huskies made it 2-0 a few minutes later when Samantha Kropa (Tunkhannock/Lackawanna Trail) scored off a Vanartsdalen assist. At the 27:55 mark Erin Hench (Loysville/West Perry) scored with Kelsy Kress (Littlestown/Littlestown) earning an assist.
In the second half Vanartsdalen and Hench both got a goal and an assist , while Amanda Rily (Tannersville/Pocono Mountain East) capped the scoring with her first collegiate goal. Hench finished with her first collegiate two-goal game, while also adding two assists.
Bloomsburg goalie Caitlin Koczynski (Langhorne/Neshaminy) stopped three shots to earn the win.
The Huskies, 1-0, play at Slippery Rock on Saturday at 2 p.m.
